Our Squadron is for all Marines who are or were part of Marine Air Command and Control. The name honors a small team of Marines who created an all weather bombing system in 1949 at Point Magu, California that evolved to become the Air Support Radar Team (ASRT). The equipment was sent to the Korean War as part of the 1st MAW, 1st MTACS. The radio call sign was Devastate Charlie. We are part of the Marine Corps Aviation Association. MARINE AIR COMMAND AND CONTROL SYSTEM (MACCS)

MARINE AIR COMMAND AND CONTROL SYSTEM (MACCS)

The Marine air-ground task force (MAGTF) commander is responsible for all MAGTF operations. The MAGTF commander normally delegates authority over air operations to the aviation combat element (ACE) commander. The ACE commander exercises command and control of ACE assets through the Marine air command and control system (MACCS). The MACCS performs battlespace management and control requirements necessary for effective employment of MAGTF operations. Battlespace management is a command function of the MACCS and is centralized at the tactical air command center (TACC). Control requirements of the MACCS are decentralized throughout the subordinate agencies of the MACCS. The following agencies are components of the MACCS.

Tactical Air Command Center (TACC)

The TACC functions as the senior MAGTF air command and control agency to provide supervision and operational management of the MACCS. In an amphibious operation, this entity will be called the tactical air direction center (TADC) until control has been passed ashore.

Direct Air Support Center (DASC)

The DASC processes immediate air support requests, coordinates aircraft employment with other supporting arms, manages terminal control assets supporting ground combat and combat service support forces, and controls assigned aircraft transiting its area of responsibility.
